Dental Health and Acupuncture Meridians

Tooth MeridiansIn Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the teeth are governed by your kidney Qi ( also spelled “Chi” ). If you have dental concerns, your first step is to see if your kidneys need support. Balancing and supporting your kidney Qi and keeping your entire organ system balanced will support healthy teeth and gums.

Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine needles into specific points (acupuncture points), which are located along a network of channels known as meridians that run throughout the entire body. When the patient experiences pain or illness, it is believed that these meridians are blocked from the free flow of Qi or a vital life energy which circulates around the body through the meridians. Acupuncture can rebuild the smooth flow of Qi through the meridians and result in an improvement in health.

In modern biological dentistry, every tooth has a meridian going to it. There are 12 main meridians in the body, and each tooth is related to an acupuncture meridian that in turn is related to various organs, tissues and glands in the body on this particular meridian. Thus, disruptions to the flow of energy through the mouth may affect remote regions of the body and disruptions elsewhere may manifest in the mouth. These relationships are a result of the link between the Acupuncture Meridians and the Teeth.

According to the meridian system, poor tooth health might equate to poor organ health and blockages of energy flow. Blocked meridian flow creates reduced energetic nourishment to that organ, this will result in a physical symptom.
